Martial arts developed as the peoples of the earth fought each other for land, food or possessions. Tribes developed skills and trained each other in these arts developing various modes of combat with and without weapons. Martial Arts cover both aspects and various cultures developed different skills. These varied from the northern European tribes that particularly used swords and spears to the Chinese who developed specialized open hand techniques as well as those with weapons. The most prominent Martial Arts today are those that originated in China, Japan, Okinawa and Korea. These include Kung Fu, Karate, Jujitsu and Tae Kwon Do.
